Oversub

Thu Oct 08, 2015 12:49 pm

I have been looking at data from a fiber ISP that seems to have an oversub of 30 to 1. It seems wrong but it is not. They use about 1.5 megs per user at peak on 25 meg plus plans? Dose anybody have data to back this up or dose it seem weird? This is in the USA.

I bet that's right.
We do 10-15:1 pretty easily on wireless.
plans range from 1.5-8Mb on one part of the network and 5-20 on another part.
We assume 1Mb per user at peak usage.

30:1 is probably right. Once customer count ramps up and there is a good mix of business (daytime) and residential (primetime) the ratio can be fairly lax. Really depends on how you count.
