The WS3 firmware is being built on a much newer SDK and should be a great improvement.

Sadly we are 6+ weeks out but will be whole new platform like WS v1.5.25

Hi Chris, I am interested in WS3, but concerned about the bugs. How close are we to the new firmware being released? Also, if I buy WS3 now or in the next 30 days, direct from Netonix, will it be a revision E, with the latest SOC?

Thanks.

We have one running in one of our WISP POPs since January managing around 2.4Gbit/s of traffic. It hasn't crashed, but it really doesn't like to be worked on. It stays stable as long as you don't touch it. As soon as you login and make any changes, or even look at it, the GUI gets stuck and a "phantom traffic" of over 20Gbit/s appears on the throughput. It doesn't seem to affect traffic, and we haven't gotten any complains, but it is not something that should be mass deployed on production networks with the current firmware as is.

Hope to hear some news soon!

Thanks!

WS3 and WS4 firmware are the same but not same. Same coding different compile due to different SOC and Flash.

We hope to release v3.0.0 for WS3 in next 2 to 3 weeks.

We hope to pre release WS4 by end of summer.

Were delayed 4 month rewriting WS code to patch hack. Bit the bullet and did the massive overhaul of 60k+ lines of code delaying WS4 by 4 months and of course new WS3 code.

I don't mean to sound obnoxious, but is WS3 dead?

Well... That's a bummer =( I bought 8 of these. Can we at least expect one stable firmware release, even if no further versions are released? I can live with that, and put to use the stock I have. From there on I'll just buy the replacement. Thanks! :D

Absolutely, we will support WS3 for years. In fact the WS3 and WS4 are very close SOC and SDK family so we intend to release a firmware for WS3 each time we release WS4 firmware.

The meat of our coding is tied together between WS3 and WS4 so make a change in one (unless hardware specific such as 2.5G copper and WS4 no longer has external sensors, NOTE: We asked how many use them and most said no, the changes appear in the other firmware.)

So, the WS3 is not dead per say, and will be sold for at least a year but it will be replaced by WS4 but the firmware will live on with the WS4.

Almost exact same chassis, dims are same, just serial port will now be a USB connector not DB9 and no sensor jacks.

PRE/LIMITED release of WS4 is slated LATE November or December at latest.

I meet with chassis guy this week to sign off on new chassis cut outs and decals.

Stephen is working with Dave on HAL as GPIO mappings differ between SOCs, and a few other things. Our code sits on top of SDKs. WS line was based on webSTAX SDK, the WS3 and WS4 is based on smbSTAX SDK which offers things like layer 3 and 4 routing as well as bandwidth control rules, a lot of rules. Those features will NOT be in first or even second release, but when released will show up in WS3 firmware as well, again same smbSTAX SDK.
