Finding the correct Multi Port Fiber Switch

Sat May 13, 2017 1:30 am

I am designing a large Video site using mostly Netonix WS-12-400-AC, WS-12-250-AC, WS-6-MINI Switches with the exception of the main fiber switch.
This is due to Netonix not having the Switch available. So I have considered using the Ubiquiti Networks ES-12F EdgeSwitch 12 Fiber 12xSFP 4xRJ45 Gig for this purpose.

I'm very new to fiber and I need help deciding on the best cost effective 12xSFP 4xRJ45 switch for this job
Also I need to know what Multi-Mode Module SFP, 10G modules to order because I know that some don't play nice.

I am trying to get 10G to all of the switches except the WS-6-MINI's

Thank You,
Daniel Torquato

You would better choose a true metro switch. Ubnt miss the metro fonctionnality like ERPS for <50 ms path converging.

If you need industrial temp, Positron Access OSIRIS 1024F is a great solution from a Montreal manifacturor but it's around 3k$. Raisecom ISCOM series have a non industrial temp solution really similar for 1k$.

Both have a CLI similar to Cisco. Osiris 1024F also a GUI. Not sur if Raisecom have a GUI (never tryed to connect via http).

I understand that you feel worry about the compatibility with WISP switches, the former thread viewtopic.php?f=6&t=293&hilit=sfp lists all the compatible SFPs from several vendors, you can have a look at it.

As to the cost-effective 12 SFP and 4 RJ45 switches, ES-12F you have mentioned is a nice choice. According to the network layout, the longest transmission distance is 747 feet (228m), you can buy the 1000BASE-SX SFP (550m) with multimode fiber cables.

For 280 Feet distance, 1000BASE-T SFP with Cat5e cables is sufficient. Or you can still use the fiber optic cabling. FS.COM SFPs are tested to be compatible with Ubiquiti switches.

Are the WS-12-400-AC and the WS-12-250-AC Switched 1G or 10G?
Also are they only Single Mode or Multimode or Both?

All of the current WS models only support 1G

As far as the SFP modules they support any Cisco compatible SFP module do what ever mode fiber you can find modules to support.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE RUNNING LATEST FIRMWARE FOR SFP MODULE COMPATIBILITY AND WITH SOME MODULE YOU MAY NEED TO SELECT 1G AND OTHER SET TO AUTO JUST MAKE SURE DEVICE ON OTHER SIDE OF LINK MATCHES

Have to tested any fairly low priced easy to configure 8 or 12 port SFP switches that work the best with the Netonic switches?

To be honest our switches should work with any switch.

That's great. So I think I'm going with the (CORNING 006KSF-T4130D20 OM1 Fiber) on the WS-12-250-AC with the Cisco GLC-SX-MMD www.FS.COM Compatible 1000BASE-SX SFP 850nm 550m DOM Transceiver >> To the Ubiquiti Networks ES-12F EdgeSwitch 12 Fiber - 12xSFP 4xRJ45 Gig with the Cisco GLC-SX-MMD www.FS.COM Compatible 1000BASE-SX SFP 850nm 550m DOM Transceiver>> To the Multiple WS-12-400-AC with the Cisco GLC-SX-MMD www.FS.COM Compatible 1000BASE-SX SFP 850nm 550m DOM Transceiver >> To the WS-6-MINI on POE RJ45 over (CAT6)

Look good to you?
