I've got 3mo uptime on a 260GSP that I ran a separate power cable made out of cat5e that has 2 pairs per on the feeds -- twisted browns and oranges / Blues ' greens together, filled a butt connector with No Ox and cut / spliced the barrel connector on to the cat5. It plugs into barrel port. Runs 2 rockets, ac19 and nbe 16. The power supply is hooked to a UPS unit.
Looking at switching over to TDK constant voltage power supplies that will allow me to bump up the voltage on the longer runs to have 25v at the unit closest to the switch / no load. The only issues I've seen come up with the 260s seems to be supplying them with inadequate power. Get a good PS from the start and you're still cheaper than anyone else. It's a good unit for what it is, having the SFP slot on it makes it much more attractive than anything else in it's class.
They can be purchased and ready for a 1500' run of MMF for $65 each. You won't find anything else like it on the market.

Re: $100
Rg260gsp, junk power supply so its added cost to get it up to spec.
The platform netonix is using may have some smaller components and lower CPU etc which may reduction cost.

Re: $100
It's a small price to pay - and it's better than any POE brick

Re: $100
Also, Tiks w/ POE and barrel connector for inputs automatically accept power by both. You can connect both and it will automatically fail over.

As much as I hate to say it. I kind of agree with you..
We just built two small mini pops and used TS-5's because 1) I didn't have any WS-8's and 2) even if I did, I felt it was more money than I'd like to spend on something to do 24v and vlans.
In the future, I'll do WS-6's all day long and be happy about it. But I can see where the TS-5 still fills a nitch.
