Mon Nov 24, 2014 10:34 pm

Does anyone else want to see a DC 24 port WISP switch?

I was waiting for a sidebar answer from Chris so I never got around to ask Andy how many ports he was wanting from a 24VDC switch. I am thinking 8 and 12 port versions would be in greater demand so understand how Chris would put those on the top of the list.

What I was trying to talk Chris into was to have a dual power source and have the second (optional RPS) be DC fed. Obviously that drives up the price and narrows the market.

I have a couple of towers that would need more than 12 ports. (2 out of maybe 50) But putting in 2 12-port switches in those situations wouldn't be the end of the world.

YES! I would like to order 12 of these and would gladly have extra ports available at the sites and consume less power due to using one 'box' as opposed to 2 boxes that use more power.

WS-24-DC or WS-24-400-DC

SFP not needed but would not hurt. I would say maybe WS-32-DC with only 24 ports being PoE capable and the others not PoE capable. Which can be done with either 2 or 4 SFPs if desired.

At two site we use two of the 12 port and use the SFP to tie them together, which is just what Netonix shows on the main page about losing two ports on the crappy tough switch line when you have to use two switch to get port density you need.

We have several new DC switches coming out late fall and a couple are 26 ports (24 copper 2 fiber)

The 26 ports very small foot print compared to our existing 24 port models

I like the idea of SFP+ ports on 12 port models to stack. maybe a nice stacking option so it's 1 UI?

Reason is, I don't want to shelve a 24port model to have a backup. I'd rather run a pair of 12port models :/

I highly look forward to that WS-26-??? model being available.

I have a suggestion, but I think it would require a lot of work. For the log file can that be put on a EEPROM or maybe a SD RAM? It would be nice to have log after a reboot done by the local person or by some issue. This way we could maybe understand the issue better if the logs were still available after a or multiple reboots.

Any update on the (I assume) WS-24-xxx-DC?

I am ready to order 5 of them today and 3 to 4 more every month for the next few months.

I do understand that fall is around the corner but it would be nice to open up a discussion about the product and maybe we can have some input on design and function.
