WS-12-250B in half size enclosure

Wed Nov 05, 2014 12:36 pm

Hi Chris,

I need a switch like the WS-12-250B but half the size. A 19" switch is to large to fit in my enclosures for my towers. You could make it half the size and just add a rack Mount kit in the box.
Just like a Cisco router: Image

Not that this would be heavy but for heavy gear in particular, I like the ears that have slots instead of holes. That way I can drive the bottom screws most of the way and then just "hang" it on the screws before driving them the rest of the way.

I'm not sure what Chris has in mind for small form factor but I'm sure there are a lot of folks that sized their cabinets for smaller switches that they would like to swap out.

We do have an 8 port coming out VERY soon!

Almost the exact dimensions of the TS8 Pro

48VH on ports 1 and 2 so it can power 2 airFIBER units

24V and 48V on all ports

250 watt power supply which is twice the wattage of the TS8

All the same features/software as our 12 and 24 port switches except no SFP modules.

The 8 port and 12 ports will also be the first switches to offer DC power plants but we need to sell some AC units first to raise capital.

This is a crude drawing of the switch I made back at conception. it still looks very similar .

 This one would really deserve to be called the " Pirate4 " , as in short for Toughar Switch!

Sneak peak at our Smart 8 Port DC Version

Thu Nov 06, 2014 5:46 pm

This is a peak at our 8 port Smart DC Version

It will accept any voltage from 9-60V DC and provide 250 watts of 48 - 50V DC to run your switch and POE devices at towers sites.

Enjoy! Pirate2

How do I pre-order ?

And when do you expect them to hit distributors ?

I will swap every single THOUGHswitch I have with one of these. Especially the possibility to power AirFibers is great news!
I'm hit really hard by the half download/full upload problem and noone at UBNT seems to care about it.
Hope a switch like this will solve the problem....

Will it have any form of POE dead short protection per port? I know most DC-DC converter designs can handle short protection, but usually that means dropping power on a few other POE power devices on the same voltage. And some of them are not happy being shorted for a day or two before you can get back to a remote tower during storm season.

What I think would be useful is solder-in (on PCB standoffs?) slow-blow fuses per port. Then once on site, either live without that port or replace it with a new "AR" switch. Sure I would violate the warranty when I got it back to the shop and soldered in a new fuse, but that's a quick and easy solder job. And cheaper/more reliable than using fuse holders for something that will see a failure maybe once in 10-20 switches.
