Feature Request : Temperature POE control

Hi. We are powering our cabinet fans successfully via POE and would like to be able to automate POE power status based on temperature readings. Dont think this should be very complicated to implement. What do you think?

You could do it yourself if you want. You could use a temperature sensor (or snmp to monitor temperature board) and use the REST API to enable or disable PoE.

If all you want to do is turn the fans on and off, I say why complicate it? Wire a mercury bulb thermostat in series.

If you monitor the PoE watts drawn, you would know when the temp is above the thermostat set point. If you have multiple fans and multiple thermostats and you set each thermostat at a different setpoint, you could deduce the temperature by deducing how many fans are running by looking at the wattage drawn.

We can add a feature where the POE to designated port(s) is turned ON and OFF to control box fans but this would be based on board temp which I am not sure would be very useful?

There was a time when I requested external sensors but was told would not be very useful.

I had envisioned these external ports:
Open door sensor
Temperature
24V/48V port for external fans - programmable based on external Temp and time.

I've done this with inexpensive snap discs http://www.mouser.com/Thermal-Managemen ... sc&FS=True

An I2C sensor or NTC thermistor would cost me pennies to add, if an external port was on the Netonix.

Right now an mFi-mPort + mFi-THS is costing me half of what a WS-8-150-AC does, and a third of a WS-12-250 :yikes:


And it's clunky as shit HW requiring obsolete SW... got 6 of them... each one within arms reach of a Netonix...
So I think there is value there, but the community at large would need to chime in.


Edit: One of those does actually monitor a door, and control devices based on temperature...

POE power based on board temp would be perfect. Were literally just trying to keep the netonix cool in a metal cabinet.

We can do a firmware feature where we turn POE ON and OFF for a port that you use to control a fan then use this to power the fan:
