Syslog and what can prevent it from working-

Today I turned on syslog on one of my dozens of switches and noticed it did not behave like the rest of them. I was not getting any syslog information at all. I checked the local log in the switch and it was infact logging correctly, just not making it to the syslog server.
I then checked syslog function from adjacent switches and all of those between the syslog server and the switch that was not delivering messages. They were all working normally.
There are no firewall rules preventing this, and I also changed my srcnat rule just in case it may have been an issue but that was not it either. TFTP auto backup was working normally and to the same ip/server.
What I did find is if the device name (netnoix name) had a special character of ' (apostrophe) in the name it would not send messages. I renamed the switch from Ryan's to Ryan-Net0 and syslog began functioning correctly.
Not really a problem, just wanted to save someone from having to bang their head against the wall trying to figure out why maybe theirs is not working lol
