Hi there, hoping to get an answer on whether or not what i am trying to do is possible...

Currently looking at installing a WS-6-Mini in a location where there is no power currently and the cat6 cable running to it is 145 metres long for which i hope to use. Where the WS-6-MINI is installed there wont be any power although there is power at the other end of the 145m Cable. There will be a 48VH POE injector installed there to power the WS-6-MINI. Given that the run is 145m i understand the injector will not be able to power the Netonix.

Can someone verify whether or not putting in a unit like this halfway in the cable run would work or not?:

at that range, using 23 awg cat 5e, your voltage drop on the cable will be about 30% with a load current of 1.5A: https://tinyurl.com/mr3bywr6

You'd have approximately 60w usable at 30v remaining from the initial 48, so if your stuff's 24v you'd be okay on a 48vh injector. Those planet telecom lifters are a max of 60w, and if you put it in halfway it's still a 72.5m run so your "48" into the switch is still going to be low, 42-45 depending on load current.
I use a 150m cable to test those silly AirFiber radios that get grumpy about long cables and modulate down to 10/100, ethernet comms will link at that length as long as both ends and the cable are good.

Cat 7 or 8 will have a lower resistance due to thicker conductors, but it sounds like you're trying not to pull *more* wire up a tower for this one, and I don't think it's enough of an improvement to bother calculating.

In summation, this seems like an application for a WS-8-150-DC - they *can* be modified to accept POE input (although this does void Netonix's warranty, you'd have mine), would boost line voltage to true "48"(50.4) thanks to the integrated 150w psu. Mind you, you won't get 150w through a single PoE cable and I'm not aware how to use two inputs, but if you were starting with a 6 you don't need the full power budget.. Of course, the generally accepted 'correct' way is pulling DC and fiber up to said 8, but that's not the question you asked--

You could have Julian modify say port 5 and 6 to accept POE "IN" then use LACP to combine those ports for DATA or simply disable one port on ports tab. But keep in mind copper is rate at 100m but we have all pushed it further especially as stated above by using CAT6

Or use fiber copper composite cable to power WS-8-150-DC. The fiber gets rid of the 100m copper cable limit and the smart power supply takes care of the voltage drop but increase amp load on cable so make sure cable can handle the power load.
