Choosing 24 vs 51vdc lithium for WS-12-250-dc

Tue Oct 25, 2022 1:17 pm

Hello forum,
We're updating an aging DC/solar power supply at one of our smaller radio towers (~30w continual load). Is there any advantage to running a single 48vdc 200ah lithium battery vs four 24vdc 100ah lithium batteries in parallel?

Purchasing options:
four (4): https://relionbattery.com/products/lithium/rb24v100 ($2100ea; $8400 total)

or

one (1) https://relionbattery.com/products/lithium/rb48v200 ($8300)

What would experts suggest here.

Does one voltage make more sense than the other? Just looking for purchasing advice here.

Thanks in advance

My first question would be why lithium batteries? What is the benefit vs the much higher cost? In our hot environment batteries don't last and, looking at the specs, our environment would often be too hot for lithium batteries to charge (not that old school batteries do well either). Naturally, if they are in a conditioned environment that's a different story.

That said, do you want multiple battery packs each with their own built-in BMS or one battery pack that has a BMS that manages all of the cells in the total system? In other words, four batteries packs arriving at a given voltage based on their individual internal BMS then combined together or one big pack that is managed as a unit...
Today is an average day: Worse than yesterday, but better than tomorrow.
