Hi Andy,

You need to be more descriptive here as this is not much information to help you with.

The fact that you are using SAF links is irrelevant as it is just a transparent bridge, same as plugging a cable between the 2 switches (if the links are linked and working properly).

At this point the 2 switches are bridged (Layer 2).

What is the purpose of the intended VLAN?

not sure the best way to explain it but SAF LUMINA has a built in vlan feature you have to configure and you have to configure the vlans in the switches also
Im just trying to separate our WAN traffic from our LAN. basically we have a new tower we brought fiber to and send it over the SAF link to our headend but now we would like to also use the tower to serve a few customers. now i need to bring our LAN back to the tower. it all in the SAF LUMINA manual but the VLAN function in the wisp switch is a bit different than the cisco im used to

I am pretty sure the SAF VLAN you are talking about is the management VLAN ID?

The VLAN configuration in our switch is pretty simple, you create a VLAN and specify which ports participate in the VLAN and if they accept Tagged or Un-Tagged packets. It is pretty much very similar to the Ubiquiti VLAN configuration interface on the ToughSwitch.

As I said maybe a network diagram explaining what you want to do would help us understand your goal. THe diagram should show what ports you want to use for what and what plugs into those ports such as your router and or other switches.

From SAF manual

Drop invalid VLAN – frames with no corresponding entry in VLAN table are being dropped.

I think if this feature is disable, it should let pass unknow VLAN through. I didn't try it right now but will have to try it soon.
