Need Help with STP and Ring

Fri Oct 18, 2019 4:38 pm

I'm trying to figure out how to make it so my backup link AF4 and AF3 are only passing traffic if the AF5/AF6 link, or the AF1/AF2 link is down.

SW1 is where the Internet connection is at.

I want to send traffic directly to SW3 from SW1 and SW1 to SW2, and only use the link between SW2 and SW3 if the ring is broken.

Please help me with the STP configuration on each switch.

SW1 -
port to AF1 - Priority= ? Cost= ?
port to AF6 - Priority= ? Cost= ?
SW2 -
port to AF5 - Priority= ? Cost= ?
port to AF4 - Priority= ? Cost= ?
SW3 -
port to AF3 - Priority= ? Cost= ?
port to AF2 - Priority= ? Cost= ?

Any help would be appreciated

The most important thing is to configure the root switch (normally where is your internet source) by lowering global priority. With default cost, every device should take shortest path up to the root switch. Since it's a 3 devices ring, the shortest path will always be the 1 up one and backup, 2 up one.
