config from WS-8-150 to WS-12-250 DC

As my sites sometimes unexpectedly grow, I often find myself running out of ports on the 8 port DC model.
Presently wasting a lot of time having to reprogram them all by hand.. Is there any way of cloning an 8 port config onto the 12 port (or larger) model? I tried config export import but no success.
Perhaps there's a command line option? For example, on mikrotik's I'll often export the config and if it's going to another model simply search and replace offending entries then paste in the whole config file. Help appreciated.
