Temperature Ranges

Sun Feb 11, 2018 12:43 pm

Hello,

What are the operational temperature ranges for the Board, CPU, and PHY?
I'm setting up some SNMP monitoring and wanting to know what expected thresholds should be set to for each "tempDescription".

Thanks,
Duane

I used the "advanced" search feature by clicking on the magnifying glass in the search box

Search for keywords: +temp +phy +cpu
Search for author: sirhc

A few results:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2855&p=19976&hilit=+temp+phy+cpu#p19976
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2527&p=17715&hilit=+temp+phy+cpu#p17715

Thanks Chris:

I was able to do some reading and get some good high threshold values for CPU, PHY and Board. (125C, 125C, and 90C)

Do you guys have any unsafe low values?
It might seem silly, but I've seen hardware fail to perform properly (not permanent failure) due to too low of temps.
I've seen power supplies, power regulators, etc puke if they get too cold.
Even our CMTS will have issues if the ambient air is too cold, etc.

Thanks,
Duane

If our switch is running as the ambient temperature drops below the stated operating temperature range there is no issue.

If the switch is OFF and you attempt a "cold start" below the stated operating temperature range it is possible the switch will not start properly.

Operating Temperature -25 to 55°C (-13 to 131° F)

People are using these in Alaska and have heard of no issues with COLD.
