Airfiber 5x failure

Sun Dec 10, 2017 2:18 pm

Airfiber 5x loses LAN communication this is happening after updating it to version v4.0.2
To resume the communication again, it is necessary to do two actions to deactivate and activate the LAN port in programmable switch or turn off and turn on the POWER to the 5x airfiber

Help is a main link

Hello Sirch change the airfiber to another new one, everything indicates that the switch is failing at any moment the port 2 that is in a 48HV voltage stops working I suspect that the power of that port is the problem.

Today change the airfiber for a new one and pass the fault
Attached photo of the switch

Previous another netonix unit that was in this same place was restarting completely you told me that it had a correction for the bank of voltage of 24 V maybe this is failing for the same

48V POE is directly passed from the switch power supply so if the power was interrupted the entire switch would reboot.

Now it is "possible" I suppose the MOSFET on that port could be failing but doubtful.

Swap the radios/cable from port 1 and port 2 and see what happens.

Meaning unplug cable in port 1 and put in port 2 and put cable from port 2 into port 1 (changing any configurations as needed such as VLANs and such)

Ok, he'll do that test later

Now I see this behavior when communication is lost

I see that the airfiber stays on

what is wrong as I see is that it loses LAN communication

See the following behavior of the team see the attached photos

Given your experience, do you believe that there is a cable failure due to this behavior?

Things I would look at:

I can see from above that the switch port is set to AUTO which is correct.
Make sure the port speed/suplex is also set to AUTO on the AFX radio?

Is there an Ethernet surge protector in play here? - TAKE IT OUT OF PLAY
You should NOT use Ethernet SUrge Protectors on "passive" POE devices because how they work is they clamp all 8 wires together in the event of a surge which creates a dead short which is BAD. Ethernet Surge Protectors are fine with "active" POE and they will also not hurt the POE bricks that come with the radio.

Other than that if you replaced the radio and have no change then your down to:
Either switch port or radio is not set to AUTO speed/duplex.
Could be a bad switch port so swapping radios in port 1 and 2 will tell you if there is a bad port.
Could be a bad Ethernet Surge protector which you should not use anyway.
Could be a BAD crimp end or bad cable. - Replace Ends then cable.

Can also be ground current, make sure electrical service ground rods are bonded to tower ground rods, also might want to add a new ground rod to the existing electrical service ground rods and bond all together.

Being a WISP is akin to being a detective you have to investigate all possible causes and use sound logic in figuring it out.
