Disable port without powering it off?

Fri Jun 09, 2017 7:15 pm

Is it possible to disable a port on a WS-6-Mini without powering it down? I figure I can workaround this by making a dummy VLAN and putting the port all by itself in that VLAN, but I'd really prefer an actual link down. Possible?

You guys should watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JvBEAD4MFM
Then take 30 minutes and explore every Tab
Some fields and column headings have mouse over help balloons and some Tab have a (?) here you can get on screen help

Go to the Ports Tab

The forums has a lot of intersting help if you use the search feature like these posts:

Perhaps this is something from older firmware, but the last time I used "disable", it powered the port down. I take it that's not the current behavior?

edit: I'll also note that in 1.4.7, removing a port from all VLANs does disable a port without powering it down.

I'll also just note that the total time you've probably spent posting stuff on the forum like "watch the video, retard!" is more time/effort/aggravation than just creating a user manual. :)

If a port is not in a VLAN it is disabled, has always been that way and talked about many times.

A simple search reveals this post and several more.

As far as disabling POE when a port is disabled I don't recall that but if it did that would be really OLD firmware and silly to be using?

The forum is better than a manual, simply search for your question and you will find posts on just about anything with the switch. If you can't find an answer simply ask and we respond fast but if you do not bother looking and I look for you and easily find it be prepared to get a little flack or even this icon :ak:

But as I said the UI is so "simple" I fail to see where a manual would be beneficial? We are a small company and feel our resources are better spent developing and supporting.

EXAMPLE OF HOW SIMPLE THE UI IS:
Let's see, say I want to disable an Ethernet port, logic indicates I would do this on the Ports Tab so I click on the Ports Tab

Once there I would easily see a Column header that says "Enable" with check boxes under it for each port row so I uncheck the port I want to disable.

Done.

A wiki could be a good alternative to a manual. It would be maybe easier to find information than searching in the forum.
