6 mini powering a 6 mini?

Fri Oct 07, 2016 11:06 pm

Am I setting myself up for trouble using a 6 mini to power another 6 mini? First one in line is powered by an AF POE injector. It will power a Mimosa B5 (48v) and the second 6 mini 125 cable feet away. That second 6 mini needs to supply an ePMP 1000 (48v) and a force 180 (24v).

Id rather run a second Ethernet cable but it's not possible at this site...

How many feet between the AF PoE brick and the first MINI? You will need to calculate the voltage drop on it based on the wattage draw and wire resistance. Also, the reverse protection diodes add 1.4V drop per MINI.

Maybe consider powering the first MINI using a 54V PoE brick.

Between the first mini and POE is about 50 feet of cable - maybe a bit less.

I thought the AirFiber 24 POE injector was a 54 volt 80 watt brick??

The AF24 POE brick is 50V 1.2A or 60 watts

UBNT does sale another POE brick that is 54V 80 watts

I apparently have bought both UBNT bricks - stupidly figured they were the same. Guess I better make sure this mini has the 54v version on it... Ugh.

You can use either POE brick with the MINI
54V is fine
