Firmware download comment

Ok. Got my first Netonix switch and feeling a little giddy at the geeky coolness of the whole thing, but can I just make a comment:

Mandatory user registration for firmware downloads is NOT COOL! I've been buying networking kit for couple of decades now and any another manufacturer who have done this has received a black mark for doing just this. Just saying.......

That said, really looking forward to deploying this!

I put that in place because time after time I get calls or emails from people with problems and they have not upgraded their firmware or were totally un-aware of bug reports.

We send out PM messages whenever a new firmware is released and when there is a nasty bug report.

Often people upgrade their switch when they first get it as there is a piece of paper telling them to but they never bother to register on the forums so they never get alerted to bug fixes or such.

I am sorry if you feel this is a pain but how else can I notify you that there may be a serious bug in the firmware or let yo know when there is a new firmware?
Support is handled on the Forums not in Emails and PMs.

Sorry Chris, but I have to side with the OP. While I like this whole happy family thing and all, this board has some tough restrictions on what email accounts one can use to register with.

Perhaps a compromise can be reached where the firmware can be had without registering but where a user may opt to sign up to get alerts for firmware releases.
