SFP+ is not software it is hardware so it requires a new design

I know. But with all these gig ports...hopefully on the next agenda :)

Agreed, SFP+ is high on our priority/want/need list!

Thanks,

We have plans to make a switch with SFP+ but it is more for NOC type applications?

How many people really have a 10G need at towers?

Possibly those that have fiber run to a tower but no wireless backhaul on the market or near market can use this.

We have "limited" resources so for us to build a switch "now" that is SFP+ would greatly reduce our ability to produce our current models.

We don't need 10G, but we need 1.2Gbps full duplex. I'm not doing LAG... 10G is current generation and doesn't cost a lot more to implement in hardware.

A switch core is a self contained chip, it comes with ports, and most times PHYs as well as a small MIPS CPU to drive the UI, CLI, and things like SNMP and stats (but does nothing with switching packets)

To implement SFP+ requires the use of a different switch core which means re-design, re-certifications, and so on.

Do we have the next generation of switches on the drawing boards.....YES

Do some of them have SFP+......YES

Are some of them Layer 4/5.........COULD BE

We just did not feel that the WISP industry as a whole was in need of SFP+ at this time, now in a couple years sure, lets see what we show off in Vegas in 2016

@sirhc,

You should definately look into doing switches with pure SFP and SFP+ ports. I know it's not wISP switches, but a lot of wISP's are also doing FTTx....

"How many people really have a 10G need at towers?"

We are using towers with 1Gb (looking to add >1Gb) wireless PTP to feed FTTH headends. The tower is fiber fed. Not all wireless is for the last mile.

Plus, it would be nice to be able to use the same brand switches in the office.

So lots of need for 10Gb.

Any news about this? We need Wisp Switch with SFP+ ports (at least two ports). Regards.
