As per heating up in a shield.....I drill holes into the aluminum to allow air to flow through it. My upper most holes are about 1/2' lower than the antenna ports on the radio. The lower holes are just anywhere in the lower 2" of the box. Because of the chimney effect, you will have continual airflow through the box. In direct sunlight with no airflow it can get over 65c easily.

I just installed my first AF-3X and I have a question for Sirhc. I have an WS-8-250-AC switch that does not have the 24VH power option so I am running all my current AF-X radios on a regular 24v .74A port. The AF-5X radios only uses around 10-11watts max. However the 3X uses 15-16 watts. Should I be concerned? Will the regular 24V port handle the load.

Well .75 watts = 18 watts = Your Good
If the 5 minute ans 1 hour graphs are less that 18 watts you will be fine.

Our 24V STANDARD (2 pair - PINS 4,5,7,8) is good to about 160+/- feet of cable (good cable) for the AF5X but the AF2X and AF3X use more power so you need to be mindful of the current load and people should report back what they are successfully handling cable length wise.

Also be mindful of your switches total power usage, one should not exceed 80% capacity on the 1 hour graph (constant draw)

Thanks for the reply. This AF3X is on approx. 135ft of cable. Total load on the switch is no issue as it only runs around 45 watts. 1 hour average looks to be around 13 watts. Since I just put it up today I will keep an eye and see if I have any power issues.

I will also say that the AF3X is great so far. It replaced an existing RocketM365 link that @20mhz maxed out at around 65Mbps aggregate (slight Fresnel blockage) at 7 miles. The AF3X on the same freq and same dishes @20mhz gets me and aggregate bandwidth of 184Mbps.

I'm considering a swap for ~9km link now that is a pair of nb-m365s. Little worried/annoyed by only getting a few years use if the FCC doesn't open up some compatible frequencies though.

Too far to pull 8X on an AF5X+RD30 in DFS too :/ Right over ~25k population so I suspect AF2X won't cut it. The AF3X seems a great choice other than the status of 3.65.

2 Ghz and 3.65 would make more sense in PtMP scenario. That what I expect next for AirFiber, adding PtMP via firmware update to compete Canopy PMP450 and other high end radio.
