Patch Panel at Bottom of Tower?

I vaguely remember someone saying that they patch the cat5 lines into a panel at the bottom of the tower and then connect to the switch. Just wondering what people have used for this. Anything special? We have had a few times in the past where water would get into the line and I am trying to avoid it going right into my nice switches if it would happen again. Thanks!

Many use the APC surge rail mount with mtc surge protectors

I wish that I had that much space in all my enclosures so I could do the same.....
Those APC racks with ligtning protection looks really nice!
