Pennsylvania Math

Mon Oct 19, 2015 12:12 pm

On the main page 'do the math' area has me confused. How does it work out to 13 usable ports on the WS-12-250-AC? :???:

Looks like 2 fiber + 12 copper = 14 (and one could always use copper SFPs if so inclined and have 14 copper ports). :willy:

I did search and it didn't help alleviate my confusion... Image

We assume one port used for up link on each switch

So with the TS8 you get 7 useable ports + 4 ports with the TS5 so 7+4=11 ports

On our switch we assume 1 up link ports so you have 13 useable ports

Not really PA math just making an assumption you need at least 1 uplink port per switch

Interesting. I was just thinking in terms of usable ports. A TS8 connected to a TS5 and using one of the ports for backhaul is even worse... 10 ports to plug other things into. The Netonix using fiber backhaul is even better: 12 ports to plug things into.

Any way it gets sliced, the Netonix is a better deal.

So, to borrow and twist a catch phrase: "Better Switch, Better Network" Pirate4

We just received a couple of the WS-8-250-DC switches at the end of last week and will be 'labbing them this week - anxious to get started!
