These dishes are a little deeper with the feedhorn about even with the side. Any need to shield them and are there shields for them?

There would be no need for the Radom but the Radio box on the back is still being discussed.

They actually have made this rather confusing. They claim the dish is deeper, so we figure it does not need a drum shield. However, if you go to the AF antenna datasheet:

On page 5 they talk about using it with their RFArmor china knock-off drum ISO-BEAM-620 ????????

I don't yet have any of these, but am looking into AF-5X and started researching the antennas. It's obvious that the lower gain AF-5G23-S45 is very deep. But has anyone had the AF-5G30-S45 side-by-side with the old standard 2' Rocket dish (maybe with photos)? How much deeper is it? Is it the same physical dish shape (in particular, the depth) as the dishes in the RD-5G30-LW, PBE-5AC-620, and PBE-M5-620 ? I'm betting RD-5G30-LW is exactly the same except for the slant.

Chis if you do decide to make a radio shield box for these, might you incorporate it with a "precision alignment" hardware bracket design that would eliminate the need to pay an additional $40 to make these easier to aim and more wind-worthy?

I just put one up and it is the same exact size as the RD-5G30-LW. The dish is the same depth as the feed horn. I also put up one of the ISO-Beams on the dish. Not sure if it is needed but I do everything I can to lessen any colo interference.

Yes sbyrd, I got the Email notice about it this morning. I think it sucks that basically sirhc proved the concept of a straight ring around the edge while they were poo-pooing it as "cake pans" because their "geniuses" were working on "GPS" and "airPrism". And now they embrace the idea and don't even give him credit for selling everyone on it.

So the ISO-Beam does actually "bolt on" ... Some of the pics made it look like the AF-5G30-S45 had no bolts holes around the edge.

It does not bolt on. It has a clamp ring that goes around the edge and attaches the radome to the dish. Since everything is white it is hard to see. All you do is loosen one threaded bolt and remove the ring and the radome comes off.

Arrrrrrg I'm sorry, I didn't scroll down on the pic far enough, I stopped at the 2' Rocket dish and saw the bolts on it!!

Thanks for the pic and for clearing up what I was thinking! Now it all makes sense!

What do people think of the performance of the AF-5G30-S45 + IsoBeam vs the legacy Rocketdish + 45 deg slant + RF armor?

I need to either shield my entire fleet of Rocketdish 30s or replace them with AF-5G30-S45, I'm hoping the isolation is as good?

The performance of the old Dish with the RF Armor kit is just as good if not better but the NEW RF Armor kit designed to also handle the AFX which is called UDK25X also has an ENLARGED Rocket Cover Box to fit all the Rockets and the AFX which helps a lot in a tight cluster of radios by further reducing any noise from behind the dish.

If you already have the OLD Dish Kit you should change out the Rocket Cover Box past # UDS25X.
