Power Supply i2c communication error

Wed Dec 04, 2024 7:08 am

Good morning,
We have a WS-12-250-DC.
We have recently refurbished replacing the board.
Today we have installed on a network site and we have noticed some error in the log:
Code: Select all

Jan 1 00:00:20 admin: Unable to query power supply

Dec 4 11:51:56 switch[1519]: retrying i2c link to power supply
Dec 4 11:52:02 switch[1519]: i2c link down to power supply (0)

Our WS-12 is the shorter one, and it doesn't have a power supply, so there isn't a power supply to connect to the i2c header.

In device/status all information about the power supply is in "Error" status, Input voltage is at -1V but board power is reported correctly.

We have tried to power cycle, reboot and upgrade from 1.5.14 to 1.5.21, but it hasn't solved this issue.

The board is new and has been bought from your store. In the purchasing process, we have sent you the MAC address of the switch to get the right replacement, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Is it possible to solve this issue, or should we replace this switch with another one?

Thank you
-Paolo

I can help you with this but I am buried this week.

Ping this thread Tuesday next week and I'll reach out to you and assist you.

Can you have the unit on a bench and install radmin server on your computer connected to the switch console.

Worst case we could use skype screen share but will go slower as I have to have you drive.

Sorry, I have posted the screen and I haven't noticed your reply.
Let me check if we can replace the unit today so I can have in lab to troubleshoot it, and I'll ping you next week.

Thank You

Hi,
I'm sorry but I was very busy in the last two weeks.

Can you please when you are available to check this switch?

Thank you and Happy Holidays.

First PLEASE upload pics to the forums direct, do NOT link to another site. Otherwise the thread becomes useless down the road when the link goes dead.

There is a link below the BLUE PREVIEW BUTTON called Upload attachment.

I edited your post above.

The MAC: in your pic is ec:13:b2:a1:31:38 which says it is a WS-12-DC not a WS-12-250-DC

We sold and shipped that unit to VARIA System GmbH on 03/28/2017. You can get this info from the RMA portal by plugging in the MAC address.

It would help if you did not cut the top of the screen off so we can see what the switch thinks it is (model), please repost pic showing top of UI.

If you go to the console via SSH or in the UI and use the "show status" command can you give a screen shot of that as well.

The board is new and has been bought from your store. In the purchasing process, we have sent you the MAC address of the switch to get the right replacement, so it shouldn't be a problem.

If you can open the switch and provide a pic of the board showing the serial number that would help figure out what happened.

REMEMBER PLEASE USE THE UPLOAD ATTACHMENT LINK.

Could you please provide the order # from our web store.

Good morning,
sorry, I missed the image upload button.
Yes, it is a WS-12-DC. I read the model from the UI rather than from the label.
I attach:
switch labels (The black one on the left is the original and the white one on the right is the one that came with the replacement board):

Switch board photo:

UI status page:

UiStatus

show status command from SSH:

sshStatus

Order # from your store is: #1045011743

Thank you.
Regards

So looks like someone screwed up on our end.

The good news is I can fix this remotely.

Pull unit from service.
Setup on bench with a public ip or behind a public IP nat with a port forward so I can SSH into it.

Send IP or IP of NAT with port forward to SSH PORT so I can SSH into it. Also user and password.

You can send info to chris@netonix.com

I will login to it and resetialize it as a WS-12-DC and not as WS-12-250-DC.

Please upgrade to v1.5.24 first if you can.
