New SMTP authentication issues with Gmail

Sat Jun 11, 2022 10:35 am

I'm running v1.5.8

On my Gmail server the Normal Password Authentication method is no longer allowed. Encrypted, Kerberos, NTLM and TLS Cert don't work either. The only one that works now is OAuth2. The Allow less secure Apps feature in Gmail settings where exceptions can be authorized has been eliminated as well. This poses a problem for SMTP alerts set to a Gmail address in Netonix gear and manager. They now fail.

While it's true that "Allow less secure Apps" has been eliminated, you can still setup an "App Password" within your Google account to get access to SMTP, as long as you enable 2FA on the account first. Instructions: Sign in with App Passwords

Is there any chance this issue will get straightened out?

What issue? If you want to use a gmail account for sending emails you just need to adjust to Google's new SMTP requirements.

Enable 2FA on the account & create an application password like I mentioned last time. If you really don't want to enable 2FA on the gmail account you've been using (you should) then create a new gmail account just for sending emails from your devices. They're free.
