WS-8-150-AC no response after firmware update

We have a ws-8-150-ac that has been going offline for no particular reason about every 10 days. Called in and was advised to update from 1.5.2rc4 to 1.5.2. Ran a switch backup, and uploaded the firmware.. it seemed like the update worked just fine, unpacking and copying, etc. Then the firmware update process said the switch would reboot, so far the switch hasn't came backup from a reboot now for about 20 minutes. Should I power cycle it?

Is the unit still responding to pings?
Possibly your browser is boinked, did you try accessing the switch from another browser or computer?
You can also SSH into the switch with a program like PUTTY.
As a last resort there is a serial console port on the switch.

The only way a firmware upgrade can fail once the firmware is uploaded to the switch is interrupting power to the switch as the browser is not needed throughout the upgrade process as the upgrade process is handled 100% on the switch itself.

Example once the file uploads to switch you could close your browser and the switch will complete the upgrade on its own.

If you did boink the firmware upgrade due to power interruption then there is a way to recover via console: https://forum.netonix.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1073#p8073

Thanks for message! it wasn't responding to pings and browser was ok. A pc directly connected to the port was not getting traffic either. There was no power outage during the post firmware auto reboot. A manual unplug, wait, and replug of the power cord fixed it! I logged back in and see that the update to 1.5.2 worked. However the fan is running at ~4200-4600 rpm's. You can hear that it is running at a rate that sounds faster than normal...or maybe that is normal? Is there any logs you would like me to look at or anything?

Thank you, but we are already running version 1.5.2., and the fan is still running at about 50% max speed. Is there something else I could try? Thank you so much!

Yes, that is the new normal. In the link that Chris provided, there were several other links that chronicled the evolution of the new fan control. Now the fans start up full speed and then drops down to around 4200-4500 RPM.

ok, ya I see that now. The fan is off for 2 minutes, then on for about 2 minutes, then off for about 2 mins. It looks like it turns on at 45c and off at 35c board temp.. I saw in another post that it what it is supposed to do, and that is what it is doing. A little unusual, but if that is the new normal, we can live with it.

Sooo, unrelated to the fan speed, and unrelated to firmware update issue, the original issue of the device becoming unresponsive every other week or so has returned. Unplugging the power and replugging will make it work for another 14 days or so.

Could this device be bad that it needs a reboot every 14 days? Or is there something else we could try?

Are you using the Netonix Manager or a service that uses SNMP?
If SNMP queries occur too rapidly it can cause issue's like that. If you're using the Netonix Manager, it also has an issue in it that can cause a switch to freeze. The next release on it will have this repaired.

thanks for the quick repsonse. We are not using snmp and I am not familiar with netonix manager... is that a separate piece of software? I don't think we are using it unless it is a setting on the switch that is on by default.
