I just wanted to report some success, rather than failure.
I followed the instructions exactly as written using my Mac (recovery entirely possible via MacOS).
- StarTech USB Null Modem cable (ICUSB232FTN) but my assumption is that any FTDI based cable will work
- Serial app by Decisive Tactics (available in the Mac App Store)
For me, the firmware load took approx 25 minutes and overall rescue process was < 35 mins
Note: My starting point was that firmware installation via GUI was interrupted by unexpected power issue. Switch was not functional.
