Hi,
I am reporting a problem with a WS-12-250 switch, hoping to receive advice regarding any diagnostic indications to be carried out.
The switch in question is:
- Model = WS-12-250-DC
- Firmware version = 1.5.2
- Board Rev = F
- Power Supply Firmware Version = 70
- Power Supply Board Rev = B
The problem is that the switch reboots for no reason. There is no useful information from the logs to understand the cause of the problem. The switch is operating in a place that is not easily accessible and any check requires a technical intervention of several hours of work.
Since the switch is part of a power network of three WS-12-250-DC, and the other two switches do not have this problem, we thought it could be a software problem. We have therefore updated the switch firmware to v1.5.2 but the problem has not changed.
From our monitoring systems we have noticed a detail: the reboots have a periodicity of about 60 days; it is not "exactly" 60 days but the gap is very small.
At this point I assume that the problem could be only hardware, I do not think there is a cause related to a software configuration.
The solution will certainly be to replace the switch with another identical one that we have in reserve, but the fact of not understanding the exact cause of the problem is quite disheartening.
I recently found this interesting article in the forum, could it be a check to do when the switch is replaced?

Upgrade to v1.5.25
v1.5.2 is OLD and there are issues there.
Why not upgrade to latest version (v1.5.25) first to see if issue goes away?

Hello everyone,
the problem occurred again after sixty days ...
This time I had the opportunity to be in front of the terminal and while I was trying to access the switch web console I saw this progress bar that I had never seen before ...
Is this a normal thing?

Well after you logged back in did you check the uptime kn the device status screen to confirm a reboot did indeed occur.
Several causes or guesses as I don't know your setup.
Power dip to the switch which would cause it to reboot.
Other than that disable all services not required such as
SNMP
SMTP
DISCOVER AND DISCOVERY TAB
All located on device config tab.
You have to do some diagnoses as my crystal ball is broken.
Other causes are loops, poling SNMP more then once per minute or god forbid polling with multiple SNMP servers. A DEFINIT NO NO
Using more than one Netonix manager to monitor switch. A DEFINIT NO NO
If switch is accessible from web either valid IP or port mapping through NAT and not using access control list.
So disable all services you can. Make sure not poling more than once per minute from ONE SNMP server. Implement access control list. Verify power. Remember we tell you NOT to power from charging controller but instead hook directly to battery bank with in line fuse. (See othervposts).
Beyond that take screen shots of all tabs not using default values and UPLOAD to post using the upload attachment link below blue preview and submit button DO NOT LINK PICTURES TO OFF SITE LOCATION.

As far as topic of these switches should be hooked to battery bank NOT charging controllers has been discussed many many many times.

If on grid WHY use a DC switch. Use an inverter charger pass through like triplite which uses grid power switches to inverter on power failure and USE AC models.
