Watchdog port bounce more than 1 port?

Mon Aug 05, 2019 11:39 am

this issue came up on a remote deployment of ours. I have the 8 port wisp switch DC model and I have been using Tycon power taps to power a pepwave max Br1 radio from a 24volt port from the switch. (port 1 data uplink to radio and port 2 24v pow tap to pepwave.)

what I've been wondering is how to trigger a watchdog port bounce to triggered from a ping on port 1 to bounce port 2 so that it cycles power on my pepwave. Any way to do this?

this is the power tap I am using.

The ping's from the watchdog should not be limited by port that will be bounced.
You should be able to select the port you want to bounce (in this case port 2) and enter the hostname/ip-address/url of the data uplink located on port 1 and still bounce port 2.

sorry for the super late reply on this, I am setting up a new deployment now and I have a screenshot to share for you of the WS-8-150-DC running firmware 1.5.3rc1

Im at the watchdog setup page here and I cant see a way to ping port 1 but bounce port 2 if need be.

edit: if I put a ping target on port 2 I'm afraid it will always fail on that port and constantly bounce power (port 2 is just a power tap there is no data flow there)

I think that there is still a misunderstanding of how the setup works.
In your configuration on the above pic you can place the hostname/IP/URL of a device that is plugged in via port 1 while the Port column is set to 2.

When the switch initiate's it's regular ping, it doesn't look at the port, so it doesn't matter which interface the device your pinging is on.

Ahh gotcha, that makes sense then, for some reason I thought if you wanted to port bounce 2 you had to ping something FROM port 2..... what you said makes more sense, Thank you for that

If port 1 is where it's getting it's power, can you chose to bounce power on it and force the switch to reset? Will that work?

As in, say you have say a WS-12-250-AC powering a WS-6-MINI on port 10, so 12-250 (port 10) =48VH=>(port 1) 6-MINI?
In this instance you can setup port 10 to bounce power and reboot the WS-6-MINI yes.

No, say you have a POE injector powering port 1 of the Mini, and you tell it to bounce port 1, will it powercycle the mini?

I ran a test, and I think I answered my own question. The bounce port does not work on inbound ports for disabling power to the switch. Please let me know if there is a different way to do this. Thanks!
