First Netonix switch deployment WS-8-250-DC

Sat Sep 05, 2015 8:01 pm

Our tower is located in the tropics, 1/4 mile from the ocean, we have no terrestrial power so it is solar and DC, we have 1 backhaul link, 3 client p2p links and 3 AP's

Previously we were using 2 sets of batteries,Tycon SC-POE2424HP charge controllers, mikrotik RB750UP's. There always seems to be some issues, although we had been running for 6 months without a hiccup. Recently, one of the power systems started giving us grief, rainy season is upon us and it seems like the panels could not keep up. We have 2x120watt x 24 volt PV's and 1 240watt x 24 volt PV. We had to use 2 systems due to issues with Tycon not being able to handle the power we needed nor were the RB750UP's able to handle the loads.

Today we changed all of that, we combined the PV's to 480watts, installed a Morningstar TS60, 2 x105AH 12 volt batteries, a WS-8-250DC switch and a Mikrotik RB750UP.

It went off without a hitch, we have to power 1 radio from the RB750UP as we were 1 port short on the WS.

So far we are very impressed with the switch, we have never before had the level of information available as we do now.

Thanks Netonix guys, we have now ordered enough switches to change out our AC powered towers and will be powering some air fiber. We need DC due the frequent power outages in our operating area and the Netonix DC switches will really simplify our infrastructure

Now if we could only have battery charge capability.....

Thanks

Dave
