I know that trees are killer to 5GHZ but could PTMP work in light trees? Like these?

At CLOSE SHORT range yes, but I hate doing this as results will vary!

What do you mean by close and short? What i am trying to do is serve those homes from a tower.

What i am trying to do is serve those homes from a tower.

Yea, just like every other WISP including me! :ak:

I would not push 5 GHz PTMP with even a little tree in the way out to 1 mile.

When I say a little tree I mean that I can see the tower THROUGH the tree.

If you can not see the tower easily through the tree even at less than 1 mile I would not do it at all.

Also I hope your tower is UP pretty high because I would not want to battle Fresnel zone encroachment and trees at the same time, really bad idea!

There is NO way to tell you this answer. It would be like me asking you the following info to determine this:

Link distance
Type of trees and at what distance from radio
How many limbs, twigs, and leaves are in the way.
Please provide diameter of all limbs in the way.
What are the shapes and dimensions of the openings you see the tower through.
The list goes on.

Anytime you introduce obstructions into the equation the equation becomes next to impossible to solve.

All I can say is with experience you will be more able to make WILD ASS GUESSES by looking at each application but even then be prepared to be wrong.

It then also comes down to noise, the wind blowing the trees around.

THis is why people with experience just avoid even trying to do 5 GHz without CLEAR LINE OF SIGHT as it is just a crap shoot and usually you lose!

Then what is the solution to trees? I think the answer is that you need a few billion dollars to get the right band which sucks.

Being a WISP using free spectrum is challenging.

The picture you showed above is similar to many small towns I service. I look for multiple towers like grain mills, water tanks and such and have options so that if there is a tree in the way in one direction I can turn around and hit another tower.

This is where RF Armor shield kits comes in handy and the ability to do channel planning with towers 1-3 miles apart.

If you don't mind I would like to see an example of one of those towns.

All of my towers are on the UBNT forums, search for threads I authored they are GOOD reads

I suppose I should bring them all over here since I am banned over there now
