This switch has been on the field for around 6 hours before this problem started.

It was a brand new one.

I did more test in the lab and the switch never came back after it started to reset. If I remove the power for 10 seconds, the switch start it boot process and in the middle, it start to reset. If I let it cool down, it take more time before it start resetting.

The temperature here in the field are around 4 Celsius.

It's definitively a hardware problem. I will ask for RMA

I just pull out a WS-12-250AC from the box this morning and I configured the basic to have it accessible. One radio powered (Nanostation 5M) and one cable for management. After 2h30 runtime, the switch rebooted by itself. Again, after 2 minutes (just the time to have access to the web interface), the radio rebooted again. 5 minutes later, rebooted again. For both switch, the firmware is 1.4.5.

Here's the console output (pretty the same as I had with the same switch.

Re: Reboot problem with a WS-12-250AC

2 switch out of 2 with the same problem is a little odd.

I did try to reset to factory default using the little push button and the switch booted ok (without any POE activated). I suspected a PoE problem so I tried to downgrade the firmware to a release I know it work with our 8 ports but unfortunately, the switch rebooted in the middle of the upgrade process and it's now corrupted.

Strangely, when doing the console recovery procedure, the fan was turning full speed and the switch didn't rebooted at all...

The fan will always be at full speed until the firmware loads as the firmware controls the fan and by default the fan is on full speed.

We have seen a few defective 250 watts power supplies (I think we are up to 10+/- so far) that after a period of time reboot.

They may run fine for several hours or even as much as 12 hours then they start rebooting at random intervals. Turning them off for awhile they seem to work fine again and then after some period of time (several hours) they will start rebooting again.

This is why we are not catching them when we test them as we do not let every switch run for 12 hours, simply not possible to test for this type of issue.

Please RMA them and make sure you say on the description they reboot after a period of time, suspected power supply issue.

Well so far only found 10+/- defective powers supplies have been found out of a 2,000 batch

I am sure there are more out there yet to be found

Ok. So we will have to setup a test bench on our side to test for this because we had to drive 4 hours and climb a mountain to change the switch. If you can test this on your side, it will be part of having a better product that we can rely on.
